When was the last time you made yourself a cake? Not including baking for dessert, for guests, and having a piece for yourself. Do you remember a time when you made your favourite recipe, just for you, just because you can? If you can’t remember, I suggest you give it a try, you deserve it.
A while back, I was feeling down, and something jogged in my mind that I used to love baking cakes. A part of me thought how ridiculous, I can’t bake myself a cake. But then I realised, why can’t I? So I did. Baking made me feel better, decorating it was a fun activity, and coming home the next day to a slice of my favourite cake made me feel great.
My favourite is a chai spiced cake with buttercream icing. Plenty of spicy cinnamon, ginger and cloves make for a rich, dark sponge, balanced beautifully by the sweet cream topping.
It might not be a special occasion, but do you really need one to treat yourself? Don’t keep it plain either, take some time to decorate and make your cake beautiful. It is for you after all, so why not make it as beautiful as you can?
