Since moving to a new area, we’ve been trying to explore a little further and learn our way around by finding new places to wander. Saturday was a clear but slightly chilly day, and felt a little like the beginning of autumn, and so the perfect day to do some exploring. We drove out of town towards the woods and found a place to to park, before heading out into the fields down a footpath to see what we could find. After a little while we found a rather idyllic looking brick bridge. We crossed, following the path, turned a corner, and came face to face with a camel.
Yes, a camel. I have to say that was so far off the list of things I was expecting to see, I don’t think I could have guessed it if you’d bet me a million pounds, but there it was. It was absolutely colossal, a good 4 times larger than the sheep it was sharing a field with.
I’d never seen one before, so stumbling across one in the local countryside was quite the surprise.
I’d like to think he was quite friendly, but we didn’t get close enough to find out, just to be on the safe side.
His neighbours over the path were a rather charming crowd of alpacas, who, just to add even more variety to our stroll, happened to be grazing right across the middle of the public footpath. Thankfully these guys were quite friendly and didn’t mind too much when we wandered through.
They had some rather fabulous hair cuts too…
We crossed a stile and found ourselves back in normality, wondering if we did actually see what we thought we did. Thankfully, I had the camera to prove it!
