When it comes to summer style, I like to keep things as simple as possible. If it’s hot, I want to be cool and comfortable, and that’s about all that matters. I find I’m a lot less adventurous with my outfits in the summer, I find a few pieces I like and then stick to it, meaning there’s less time faffing in the mornings leaving more time to go outside and enjoy the sunshine! This little capsule keeps things wonderfully simple: 5 easy to wear, versatile items, one bag, one scarf and one pair of shoes. It’s comfortable, casual and packs easily into an overnight bag for adventures. These are my most worn pieces in the warmer weather, and just a few of the outfit combinations you can put together.
A black slip dress, mine is from H&M and is a midi dress on me at 5ft1. It’s a soft, lightweight jersey making it cool, and in black is perfect for both daytime and evening wear. Then is an ASOS denim shirt ‘boyfriend fit’ shirt. This doubles as a shirt, jacket and cover-up, very light and very versatile. Next a slouchy grey tee. Mine is from Abercrombie & Fitch and my favourite t shirt, it’s a flattering fit and comfortable too. The shorts are from Hollister and great for summer adventures when a dress just won’t cut it. The khaki green is great as it adds a bit of colour to the mix and seems to go with anything. Last up is a jumper, because unfortunately I’m a realist and know that British summertime will be almost guaranteed to throw us a freezing cold day as a curveball! The sandals are from ASOS and are very comfy, the bag is an old one from White Stuff and the scarf/sarong/blanket/cover-up is from Mint Velvet.
The beauty of these items is that you can layer them up as much or as little as you like. Staying away from bright colours and clashing prints mean you can literally pile the clothes on top of each other and they will still go together.
So 5 pieces of clothing = 8 very easy outfits. Plenty of variety for a weekend away, or even longer if you’re feeling adventurous and have access to a washing machine!
