A Spring Beauty Refresh

I know Spring isn’t quite here yet. I still haven’t managed to leave the house without a large coat and wool socks, but the mornings are getting lighter, the sun is poking through every so often and the blossom on the trees is threatening to make an appearance, so it can’t be far away.

I’ve used that as an excuse to add a few new bits and pieces to my makeup bag. It’s been a very long time since I last bought anything beauty related, and decided the changing season was as good an excuse as any!

Starting with skin, I picked up:

BareMinerals BareSkin Perfecting Veil: I had a mini of this in a larger set and loved it, so grabbed a full size version when it ran out. It’s a pressed powder in a handy compact, I normally use bareMinerals loose powder but it’s not that great for taking on the go. This is perfect for popping in your bag for touchups, it’s a lovely light powder that sets makeup without looking cakey, it really makes my foundation and concealer last a bit longer and does a great job of hiding any shiny patches!

Kat Von D Lock It Concealer: My skin finally seems to be sorting itself out in terms of spots, but has left me with a rather large patch of scarring and dark marks down one side of my face. I’d heard good things about Kat Von D’s range and it hasn’t disappointed. I went for the shade ‘L3’, bearing in mind I’m normally shade 0 in everything else the shade selection was a welcome change, it’s seriously impressive! This does a great job of covering dark patches and really stays, it’s still  there in the evenings when I take off my makeup.

Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick: Another repurchase of what I think is my favourite foundation. It’s a lovely creamy formulation that suits my dryish skin perfectly. It’s pretty versatile too, most days I’ll just sweep it over any areas that need concealing, which it does excellently, or if I’m after a bit more coverage will go for more of a full face, it layers well with a lovely natural finish.

I replaced my previous rather dry mascara with something new; I’m yet to find ‘the one’ so try something new each time. This time is Maybelline’s Lash Sensational Luscious mascara. It makes my lashes beautifully long and wonderfully black, but it’s a little wet for my liking, and requires a drying period before I can put my glasses back on. It’s pretty though so I’ll make do!

For lips I decided to try out two of the new bareMineral’s Gen Nude items. I’m a big bareMinerals fan so was keen to see how these perform, and have been so pleased with them! Shopping online for lip shades is challenging but there were plenty of swatches online to help. I went for the Radiant Lipstick in Honeybun, a lovely warm toned nude, and a Matte Liquid Lip Colour in Swag, a pinkier nude. I’m not normally a matte liquid lip fan but these wear well, don’t feel drying and last a heck of a long time. Two thumbs up from me!

For once, I’ve been so pleased with every item I bought! It’s been nice to add a few new shades and formulations into my bag, I think Spring is always a good time for a little mix-up! What’s on your beauty shopping list at the moment?

Love this post, Carrie, and I love the doodles! I’ve been wanting to try the KVD Lock It concealer for a while, and this might’ve just pushed me over the edge! Also love Maybelline Lash Sensational but have never tried the Luscious one – is it a lot wetter than the original formula? T xx
